Car Show Ideas
Ok, I know there are a bunch of folks on this website that have a bunch of ideas about the way a car show should be. I say we all share our thoughts on What some of our favorite parts of existing shows are and some of our dislikes. Also share some ideas to better some of the future ones so that possible promoters of them can get an idea of the things people from the scene want in a show.
I think a lot of our local shows are geared pretty simple. I am not talking about cruise ins, but accual car shows. You enter, walk around for a little while, die of heat exhaustion, talk with friends then a couple hours later awards are given. Some have the occasional door prizes, some have consessions, some have music, etc... I think that, for day time shows during the summer, it would be cool to have more interactive activities. Such as; Milk Chugging contests: there is nothing more funny that watching a grown man/woman who thinks they can do this just barrel into a gallon of white or chocolate milk only to find them completly overwhelmed by the magnatude of such a feat. T-Shirt Beat Down: You take a sponsors t-shirt the night before and freeze it in a bowl or bucket, then keeping them on ice when the competition starts you have women/kids/men try and beat the block of ice attached to the t-shirt till the winner is completely deiced. The winner gets a concelation(?) Prize as well as the tshirt, and the other contestants get the tshirts for the effort as long as they can get all the ice off.lol Belt toss' for the kids: just take some fan belts and some cones and let kids toss them and if they make it they get prizes. Club Games: club games are always fun, cause everyone thinks their club is better as far as cars go, but what about working as a team? Tug-o-War, mini obsticle course, etc... These are just some ideas that can be improved on or even just looked past, but I think they would be fun to watch and fun to participate.

I am one that believe games and contests would be great during a car show. Something to do and stay busy. If we do not have something to do for the entire day at an event, then we usually head out after a couple of hours. We cannot sit around and do nothing for the entire day. After you look at the rides and visit with everyone, maybe eat if the event is serving food, then what??? Need something to keep everyone involved and having fun.
Here are just a few. There are lots of different games to do. Just search "ourdoor or car games" on the web to get ideas. Name those parts: What you need is 10 or more car parts. Can get out of a junk yard. For example, a hubcap, a side view mirror, a rotor button, a fan pulley, a door handle, gas cap, dash knob...you get the idea. Set these parts on a table and have small writing pads and pens as well. Have the participants guess what these parts fit. They must be exact: make, model, year specific. If you have more than one correct on all items you can either have a drawing from those participants, use the first one to correctly identify the parts, or have additional parts set aside for any run off. This can be played as individual, partners, clubs against clubs, etc. The under the car contest. A prize goes to the first owner that can fit all the way under his/her car without jacking it up. Really fun with lowriders and low street rods, watching them squeeze under. When this event is announced, state that any ride with airbags cannot raise – must leave as is. Drag Racer. You can use a chair, an old steering wheel, and an old shifter. Set a boom mic at the chair and have the participant take a seat, hold the steering wheel and grab the shifter, and do his/her best rendition of a dragster into the mic. Let the crowd judge the winner. You mentioned the fan belt toss, there is the piston throw, and so much more.

I think it would be neat to throw in a bunch of silly stuff when there's a DJ--like a dance contest and a karoke contest.
You could also have an engine guessing contest. You blindfold someone and then lead them to a car in the show. The owner starts the engine and they have to guess certain things about the engine--displacement, cam or no cam, manufacturer, etc. If each correct guess gives them a prize and allows them to move on to another car.

I think having things for kids to do would be a great addition to the car show scene. Get some place close by to donate some toys and kids related things to the show. Have some fair type games there for the kids to try to win some prizes.

There's one show at a church every year that has those bounces. Calvary in Decatur also had them at their annual show. They're just expensive. Unless you can partner with a company...

Door prizes given out during the event from items donated by local companies (Advanced Auto, O'Reilly's, etc...). Must be present to win. And can be given to winners of the fun events.
* Water balloon toss/egg toss - Always fun for kids and adults. * The game where people spin their heads on a bat and try to make it to the finish line. * Fan belt toss * Best dressed (nostalgic era) etc.. Those types of games are typically fun, attention getting, good for most ages, and is good for moral boosting. (and cheap)
