Hey Samir is there any way you can put a static link to the photos on smugmug up in the link? I always try to look at them and I am on my phone 99% of the time so the slideshow never comes up for me to click on to look at all the pics.

I'm researching what I can do. I'd rather not have a link like the older events, but there may be an elegant solution.

Making a mobile version of HCS is in the pipeline, so this will be one less thing to address if I can figure out a solution now.

I tried something that had potential to be a quick fix. It didn't work on my phone. Try it on yours and see if it made a difference.

The best way to do this that I've found will be to detect for flash and then present an alternate link automatically. Unfortunately, it's not simple and will be a lot to research and code, so I'll have to work on it when I work on the mobile version of the site.

For now, here's a link so you can take a look at the photos from this event:

Yeah, but mobile is the future. I think in the next few years, a major portion of web traffic will come from portable devices. And sites not catering to that will be left behind. You mind helping me beta test mobile versions of HCS?

There already is a ton of people (like Munchie) who access forums from their phones. Definitely the future will bring more and more people like this.

It's always been in the works, even back as early as 2004. It was just not as easy to implement as it will be today because the technology has matured as well as the detection code snippets.

Because HCS is basically HTML with javascript, most phones can render every function of HCS without a problem. But it's the fancy new stuff like dhtml, flash, etc that will cause problems in the future. It's kinda hard as a web designer because you basically have to design one site for dial-up users (essentially what the phones are) and another for broadband. This trend died years ago on the desktop, but is now coming back. But the good thing is that the devices are now also closing the gap, providing much of the desktop usability on a phone. Flash is the killer app right now for the phone, and for the most part only the iphone can do it. Some of the thoughts that come with running a web site...

Thank you Munchie! The next task after getting the new site up will be to address the issue of the flash slideshows/gallery links. I'll post here when that project is started.

Munchie, I have a new posting methodology that I'm testing, check out this event and see if it works for you:
