2011 Hennessey Venom GT is finally here!

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/06/14/2...an-be-very-pr/

Quote:
Hennessey has already divulged practically every piece of information we want to know about its 2011 Venom GT supercar. It's built on a heavily molested Lotus Elise chassis and driven by one of three versions of the 6.2-liter LS9 V8 used in the Corvette ZR1. The base model is supercharged and produces 725 horsepower and 741 pound-feet of torque. The other two mills are both twin turbocharged and produce 1,000 hp and 1,200 hp, respectively. All three models use the same six-speed Ricardo transmission as the Ford GT. Weight: 2,548 lbs dry and 2,685 lbs loaded with fuel. Price: Somewhere north of $600,000 for the base supercharged model. Yeah, this is some serious stuff.

The Texas-based tuner (can we really call a company that builds something like this a tuner?) has finished the very first production Venom GT, and it's a duesy. Chassis Number 01 is a top tier twin-turbo model, the same one clocked producing 933 rwhp a few weeks ago on a dyno.
More pictures in the link.

Best looking car ever. I absolutely love it.

Quite a difference.

Yeah, first thing I thought when I saw that was, "I could have a Carrera GT for that much."

There's no shortage of people that will buy exclusivity.

$600k is for the 750hp one. 1200hp one is $1million.

Oh, it looks like a Lotus because it is one. (kind of)

True. But those of us that have money look for more than just exclusivity. Why get one of these when you can have a manufacturer like Koenigsegg or Spyker backing your purchase? Even a Mercedes SLR has exclusivity. It all depends on how one-off you want to get.

If you want really one-off, make a custom 3rd gen rx7 with a twin turbo ls7 setup and all the other goodies. I'm sure with a budget of $600k even a project like that will be up there with the other exotics.

Or a 04-05 Gallardo with a underground racing twin turbo kit (200k), pimp boat (100k), nice house and a small lake house (500k), used C6 Z06 for a beater/daily (50k), and 150k in the bank / invested.......

Still a nice car but i like my idea better if i had one million dollars.

I just looked at the interior pics and it looks like they retained the stock Lotus seats. I've heard those are terrible even for a short trip to Atlanta. I mean, they put in a radio, so this isn't a pure track car. For $600k+, I would expect a little more driveability.

A ton of exotic cars don't have many interior luxuries.

An LSx motor RX7 is hardly exotic, in my opinion. How many are in north Alabama alone?

This car is built for speed. There's only a couple of 250+MPH production cars in the world.

Personally, I don't consider a seat that has enough support for a multi-hour trip a luxury. I know the Porsche sport seats are just as supportive as the Lotus, yet have enough padding for a comfortable multi-hour drive.

Oh I agree. But how many of them have $100k+ in them? $300k? $600k? You can make an exotic out of that much money.

True, and I guess as you approach that market of the 250+, the field narrows down to include quite a few tuner/remanufacturing companies. I think I'd still take a Porsche Carerra GT or a Koenigsegg, although a test drive is the only way to be sure.

Seats aren't the only interior piece that constitutes 'luxury'.

LSx swaps are relatively cheap now. You can definitely get them done for WAY under 100k.... even twin turbo'd LSx ones.

Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Koenigsegg's but this car is a step towards a new level for 'tuner' companies. I think we will start seeing more tuner companies having production vehicles.

But that's my point--I don't think good seats are a luxury. I think they're a requirement. Just like a good steering wheel or pedals or shifter. Especially at the price.

A swap, yes. A complete one-off exotic designed off the chassis and drivetrain like I'm thinking would run well above $200k. But it would still be as stunning as the Venom for much less dough. And of course this is with the subject of exclusivity in mind. It would be difficult to say the least to break the 250mph mark for under a couple of hundred thousand because of the research involved. I mean, you can't tune that on the street!

I agree wholeheartedly. And hopefully as the 'tuner' companies fine tune their product based on supply and demand, they can turn into full out manufacturers like SV Motors, which makes the SV 9 Competizione (based off the Chevrolet Corvette). The market is ripe for innovation. The reaction I saw a few months back to the Fisker Karma reinforces that.

As much as I appreciate all the work they put into converting a Elise into a supercar, I wouldn't own it even if I had the money. $600k+ is crazy money to throw at a car that has the appearance and basic layout as a $29k car (approx price of a used Elise). If I'm going to spend that kind of money, it will be a car recognized for what it is. A true one off or known supercar.

Heck, I'm the guy that thought the 90's ZR1 wasn't all that because they put the 3rd brake light in the same position as the later 80's models giving it an "older" appearance. Same with the new Z06's. They were supposed to make them so they would stand out from the normal corvettes....now we have a Grand Sport that has the same basic features (wide body and front inlet), but without the powerplant.

At least the owner of this car can say it will do 250mph, even though they'll never see near that speed in it. lolz

Another baller's opinion on the subject of exclusivity.

People that buy this car will most likely already have a true "one off exotic car".
