Camera Lens

I have a Canon EOS Rebal XTI with a 18-55mm lens. My daughter has started playing soccer and we need a better lens with a longer range. Does anyone have any recommendations? or have a lens for sale?

My recommendation would be the 70-200 f4 lens or the 70-200 f2.8 if you can afford it. Those are excellent zoom lenses. The other one to look at would be the 100-400. I think a EFS 18-200 IS f3.5-5.6 will be much, much cheaper and it's supposed to be really great for a non-L glass lens.

I'd check keh.com, bhphotovideo.com, adorama.com, and usedcameras.com for any used deals on these. Although I will say that the good lenses are always expensive, used or otherwise.

Since your not going to be doing any serious photography with it, and assuming you don't want to spend hundreds and hundred of dollars, you should check out Sigmas 18-200. Its got just enough zoom to get any picture you want from the wide 18"" range up to the 200mm. Cannon makes the 55-250mm f/4-5.6 which is relarivly cheap at around 230ish. I am not familiar with the XTi, but I know a lot of the lower end Cannons don't do well handheld at large focal lengths. The Sigma has its VR system locked in pretty well. Its a good lens for a good price. It would also eliminate the use of the 18-55, so for a walk around lens 18-200 is almost the perfect range to have. Unless your willing to spend your money on the "L" series I would just go with a nice Sigma or Tokina.
