Autocrossing is a time-based event in which cars race against the clock on a course made of cones. Doesn't sound complicated or exciting, but it is the complete driving experience, allowing you to push the limits of you and your car in a controlled environment.

I got there right before the lunch break as the second run group was just finishing up their runs. The run groups were a bit uneven on number, with the first having 35+ while the second had the rest. Even though 67 were shown as registered, the second run group seemed much smaller than the first. As I arrived to park my car close to the trailer, I noticed the familiar red Miata of Tristan (redmiata12). I hadn't seen him in a long time and I convinced him to stay for a bit and give drivers pointers as he's been an instructor at the driving school in the past, and is one of the best 'young' drivers in the area.

As the heat increased in the day, the pebbles on and off the line did too, creating some spectacular spins. My favorite was Mark's (MugenRios2k) spin turned circle drift. I also bumped into an old friend from the car scene that I hadn't seen in ages--Roger (S10on20s99). I've known Roger for almost a decade and found out he's related to several of the Corvette drivers I already know. Small world. He also showed me a picture of his c6 z06 supercharged that he just got. Something tells me we'll see that at the autocross in the near future.

The novice class was packed and the course was nice and long, allowing many people to really see their times improve throughout the day. The fastest time of the day was just below the minute mark, and fast runs were breaking 70 seconds.

Several Huntsville Car Scene sponsors were driving in the event--Jeremy and his son from EB Liquidprint, as well as Chris from TruFacts Racing. It was great to see them both enjoying the enthusiast hobby. See everyone next time! -- Samir

Thank you so much Steve! I had this in the back of my mind, but hadn't found time to add it yet.

See if you can find someone that is willing to do a two-driver car.

Well I've got my younger niece's bday party to go to that day and I don't think I'd be able to hop in someone elses car and beat on it quite like I do my own haha.

If it's hot out, I'm bringing the spyder to play. I would like to bring the MGB out to race, but I don't like driving the B hard in the heat. Also, from what I hear the course will be fast. So I may be tempted to bring the speed3 out. Dilemma?

Right now I'm leaning towards the spyder.

I think it's all about grip and slip since it's at John Hunt. Which car is more forgiving when there's less grip?
