Auto Upholstery Shops

My steering wheel has finally started to separate and crack due to sun damage and other abuse.

What are some good shops in town that could look and give me an estimate on the work? I like my steering wheel and would rather have it recovered instead of buying a new one.

Also...since I will be looking at an auto upholstery place I was thinking of having my seats recovered as well. Recovering (hopefully) will beat the price of a new $1000-2000 per seat!

I've heard that one of the best upholstery shops in the nation is in Cullman, but I don't exactly know the name or location. Rik of the North Alabama British Motoring Society is also quite good with upholstery from what I recall. Too bad his email isn't updated or you could reach him via HCS.

I guess that all depends on what you want done. He messed up my car seat so badly that I had to take it to Lynn over at Rods Custom to get fixed. The seat back wouldn't even fit properly and all of the seams..all of them were off. It was so bad that I didn't even offer to let him fix it, I knew it would be worse. Lynn Hendly did a great job.He had to resew everything but now its nice. Opinions are all subjective, this is mine.

I've heard Rods does good work. I've seen some show quality work done there.

I saw some more work of Rods today at the s2k meet. Ask Jumpman to show you his interior. Very nicely done.

Russell in Athens have done several items for us, including a complete interior for our '31 coupe. He did a great job on the coupe.

I'd think Norms or Rods would be good for what you are looking for.

Good luck.

Yes I am happy with the work Rod's did for me. BTW Samir, I should amend what I told you yesterday to include that the doors were in fact done by JPM Coachworks in Atlanta, not Rod's. But the seats were done by Rod's, using materials bought from JPM. As you could see, there was little to no difference in the quality of work, however.

Rods just completed a small job for me. I was always afraid to go there because I had the impression they might be expensive. I could not be happier with the job. A fellow in the back named Lynn actually saved me money. The cheapest headliner material and glue was $57 plus shipping of $39. Rod's did my headliner (out of the car) for $70. It looks OEM perfect.

Thank you for the clarifications. I'll post some pictures of the work here later tonight when I post the pics from yesterday.

I remember you telling me about this. Sounds like another good mark for Rods.

Some shots of Jumpman's interior. Sorry they're so dark. I don't know what I was thinking since the tripod was in my car.
