Historic Ford Pics

I'm starting a new thread here as I know my large pics may be overloading the car stories thread. Some of them I want to leave in high res as it is necessary in order to be able to pick out some of the details. For those who are still running in 800x600 mode - get a better monitor and graphics card!

Here is a GT-40 Mk IV at Daytona, 1967:

1960's Huntsville Speedway pics

Brady Ratliff, 1963 Comet - remember WVOV radio?

1967 Comet - Brady said he bought this car for BeShear's junkyard for $50 - anyone remember this yard just off of the Parkway near the new jail?

Bud Beshears yard man only had 1 arm. When lighting the cutting torch he would hold the unit under his nub and light and adjusty with the remaing hand. He drowned in the Tenn River.Bud relocated to Sparkman Drive where Walmart is now. When he passed away he had some nice autos they went to many new owners. I bought a 66 mustang and a 63 chevyII.Number 12 66 mustang Buddy Broome chatt tn and no 96 Camero Jimmy Duck Allison Paint Rock.

I remember Beshears yard real well. Back about 74-75 time frame, there was an emberglow colored Mustang GT convertible sitting in the for sale row out front. The car sat there several weeks before me and BJ Sanders decided to stop in and have a look. The car was a K code 289 Hipo GT 'vert, still had the correct engine , 4 speed, and 9" 3:50 geared rear...and even ran well. The problem with it was someone had replaced the front disc brakes with drums...so, with very weak brakes, nobody wanted it. Man, it was a loaded car, factory AM/8 track, emberglow and parchment pony interior, etc. It even had a Cobra steering wheel ( I ended up with the wheel, later traded it to Dan Case on the blue Boss 302 I bought from him). My buddy BJ was quite a wheeler-dealer, and ended up buying the car for the princely sum of $435! We reinstalled front discs and he had a great running and looking car. A few years later, when his wife became pregnant, he ended up selling the car to Dr. Johnson...the Dr. never even drove the car, BJ drove it to his house for him. I think he got $600 for the car...probably a $30K car today.

Here are some pics from the 1973 Winston 500 at Talladega. I was on the backstretch where there was an 18 car pileup on the 11th lap. This was the first and last time they started 60 cars at Talladega! People were screaming and running under the bleachers - dust everywhere!

Here is a pic from 1977 at Talladega showing Bobby Allison in the TBird, Donnie Allison in the Chevy, and David Pearson in the Mercury (check out those tube socks!):

Mike,
You have lots of GT40 images. If you want to see the utmost in racing Ford restorations and GT40s at the same time go to the racingicons website for the detailed restoration of GT40s (and Chevy Grandsports if you are so inclinded).

See this link for some more Talladega pictures. I was able to go there and look at the museum as well as the track.

Mike, Is that pic taken from the back stretch ? Allison Grandstands exist there now. I have pics from the spring race 2005 I'll post later. The hair styles and clothing have changed some though.
Great pics guys, keep it up ! Greg

The funny thing is, I had no intention of taking pictures that day. I was there to talk to someone who was instrumental in bringing the Talladega track to the area, and to learn about the race track business. It was research for what's being discussed in these threads:
