if Honda wants to jump in the high end sports car game now, they better be packing alot more power than the NSX had to offer. a 3.5 or 3.7L VTEC 6 cylinder? for $80k + seriously? if it doesn't make 450-475hp, it won't even be a contender unless it weighs 3000 lbs or less. the market is FLOODED with cars that would of be supercars 10 years ago.

"I'm clearly not the hero type, clearly...but I look like a hero getting out of this NSX."

At price point their aiming at, it's not even in the range of the 911 Carrera. I think this is aiming at the Boxsters and Elises out there as a practical everyday sports car that's fun and a dual mode hybrid. I think it's a winner.

I'll believe it when Honda announces it. There have been WAY too many rumors over the years about the NSX coming back.

At $80k they are in Z06 and GT-R territory. If they want to build a car to play with those boys, they better bring more than a naturally asperated 3.7L..... VTEC or not.

Are they that cheap now new? Regal wouldn't even talk to me about one less than $100k, even with a $15k deposit. I know someone local that got one for much less than $80k new, but I was thinking that was more the exception than the rule.

GTR's can be had from $60-80k all day long. Z06's can be had for the same price and used ones for MUCH less.

I didn't even noticed the car in the pictures was a convertible. No way are they aiming for the GTR/Corvette market. If anything, this will be another s2000--limited run, hand-built, well-balanced, and fun.

But who is going to pay 80k for a v6...........i mean it was different in 91 when 270 hp in a light car was actually considered quick.

^this.
there are so many people that will spend $80K just to have "honda" reliability. when people can spend the same money and buy a "supercar", it's going to be a hard sell.
buy a car that will perform with (or outperform many) modern exotics, or one that will perform with exotics from 1999, BUT is a Honda?

Maybe is it not supposed to compete. Just a nice built, fun car for anybody who wants one. A small following for nut jobs like me.

A Porsche Carrerra is a 6cyl and they start at 100k. They're not the fastest straightline car or have the most power and yet they're still selling them.

Straight-line power is just one of the factors for customers that have $86k to blow. A Ferrari isn't the fastest in a straight line either, but people pay well over $100k for one every day.

I could have spent $10-$15k less and got a 350z convertible versus my Boxster. It would have had all the same power, if not more, be moddable, and be cheaper to service. But the interior ergonomics, balance of the Boxster, and just the sheer driving joy were worth that extra $15k, even with the current issues with the car.

A z06 Corvette is nice when it's under warranty. Then it's just another GM product, and you have to deal with what comes with that. A GTR is great until you drive the car hard and have to get super-expensive specialized service.

Long-term reliability and total cost of ownership (TCO) are factors that do influence purchases, not just raw performance.

I would agree with you on the C5's however in my opinon you shouldn't have to touch a C6Z until 100k miles.

As for the Ferrari/Lambo arguement......granted these cars aren't drag cars they still have 400 hp.

Lambo's don't come with less than 500hp now a days. (V10 Gallardo being the "slowest")
