shoneys...........cruiseing.,

since there is a thread about beauregards on here, noticed where shoneys on university/parkway is closing. this was a major cruise in spot in huntsvages in the day. many time i rode around the canopy which is long gone, from there to jerry's on south p'way. now i was a little kid riding with my brothers in the early 60's. but i drove my own 56 chevy around it a few times also. hate to see it go. anybody else on here old enough to remeber that.?

I remember going to the sonic style drive up. My mom would hook us up with burgers.

You know what would be interesting? To see pictures of all this stuff from back in the day. Anyone have a box of them? We could all get together there before it closes and reminisce...or learn what the history of the place is.

Yep, I guess the stories first-hand would be the second best thing. And I could video them so we'll at least have that.

Stories. I've got to run some errands for the cars, so I'll swing by and see what the closing date is.

I was there...Shoney's South and Shoney's North. I went to Jerry's but was a bit younger and by the time I got my license Jerry's closed. I hung out at South Shoney's and had a fairly quick 1969 Camaro...used to drag race at Leman Ferry Road (Trash-Pile Road), Rideout Road, Old Huntsville Airport, and the world famous Martin Road. It was fun and lots of fast cars that cruised those hangouts such as: Hemi Bill, Buggy LaRoach, McAnally's Mustang, Doug Marty, and of course my idols at the strip were Pat Gray, Terrell Ragsdale, and Rockin Ray Owens. Thanks for the post...it was great trip back to the late 60's...I must know you, seen you there, or raced you.

I knew I forgot to post something.

So I went by yesterday evening. It's already closed. And this is permanent for sure. It had the same Tax Lien notices that Dolce had on its doors when it closed.

I guess the upside is there's now an overflow parking lot for car meets at Big Eds Pizza.
