RotellaT6 synthetic 5w40 for the speed3...found to be pretty good for the speed3's turbo journal bearings
Valvoline VR1 racing oil 20w50 for the mgb ... high zinc/phosphorus content for the mgb's tappets.

Wow, that Rotella is some tough stuff, meeting both CF and SL/SM API standards. I'll have to try that in the Accord and maybe the Porsche too. Where do you find it? I think I've maybe seen it at walmart.

That's a pretty heavy weight for the mgb. Is that what factory called for back in the day? Or is it just because of the wear on the engine over time?

Why Pennzoil for the spyder versus some of the other brands you're using?

Who are you using for oil analysis? I've used Amsoil and am trying out Blackstone Labs.

I've got two sitting next to me that I need to mail off, but I'm waiting to do one more oil change on either the Accord or the Porsche and then send off all three. I should have started doing this a long time ago.

I also use Rotella T6 5w40 and AC Delco filter in my Z28. Thats what I broke the new engine in with and all its seen since. I put 80-100 miles on it a day during the week. These old flat tappet engines benifit from it and the price is competitive. I get it at Advance A/P, but its available mostly anywhere including wal-mart

whats the deal with doing an oil annalysis. What do you learn other than you should have changed your oil sooner, and how much does it cost

I like the extra virgin olive oil. It gives the veggies a robust flavor.Plus, its the good kind of fat.

You learn much more than that. You can also find out what is wearing prematurely based on the metal content found in the oil, or how good the oil still is and if you're changing it too soon. It's $25 from Blackstone Labs with a free kit, or $19 if you pre-pay. The kits are free either way.

Check out a sample report here. It's what sold me, especially with the noise from my cars' engines now.

Just viewed the sample report. They sure break it all down. I can see why it would be benifitial to do that, and $25 isn't bad for what you get either

Yep, the way I look at it, $25 is cheap insurance to make sure that everything else we do to take care of our cars isn't in vain. People spin bearings all the time, but I'm sure there are warning signs. I'm hoping to find them on my reports so I can take action well before something happens.

I'm a die-hard fan of the expensive synthetics from Amsoil and Redline. I run Amsoil 0-30 in my daily drivers, usually for well over a year. And I'm about to try their European formula in the Porsche. I use Redline's ATFs in the Altima's transmissions exclusively as they've improved the quality of them.
