New here

Hey guys I am new here, just coming home off of a deployment to the great and wonderful country of Afghanistan. Was in the Alabama guard for 6 years, now I am with the army reserve.

I also currently own a N/A FC RX-7 Coupe and a Turbo 2g DSM.

Allright, well My First name is Robert, but I generally go by tank. I found the site with google trying to find out about some local north alabama machine shops. Figured this would be a good place to find recommendations.

I am building my DSM as a street cruiser. Eventually gonna do an AWD swap. The RX-7 will be getting a full-on 2.4 4g63/4 hybrid swap, going to shoot for Low 11s - Mid 10s on it. Probably go with a multilink setup and a ford 8.8 rear. Rotaries a cool idea but they are far too expensive to build, the 4g63 is proven to hold 400+ on the stock block.

Pics of the cars and the various states of stuff being done to them.

DSM at the car wash :

2gb Talon swap, broken front bumper sadly

Yes I transported 2 bumpers, both sets of door addons, tails, and the entire hatch with a 1.9L 2door saturn. Im bat shit crazy.

Tear down. Why? Oil leak from front corner.

Semi Tucked bay. Just tucked the main engine harness. Eventually would like to tuck the chassis harness, and power steering, as well as relocate fusebox to inside the cabin.

And this is how my bay sits now because Wheeler Machine has my engine and says its gonna be another 2 weeks before they can look at it, not start working on it, but just check the surfaces for warp.

87 S-4 FC Daily Driven

Engine on day 1 when I got it. Lots of stuff has been fixed since then. But surprisingly it made it 46 miles back from Madison with no problems. Best 800$ purchase ever.

Or bring the FC, or even the Saturn. It's all about the enthusiasm.

Easy on the language. See Section 5.a.2 of the Terms of Service. There's a lot of younger visitors on the site to be mindful of.

Sorry.. I don't have the Saturn anymore. It gave it up shortly after I got home, after 5 years and over 120k of faithful service (260+ k on the clock) it slung a rod. Had it crushed.

I might come out if the DSM is put back together. Otherwise I am stuck driving a FC with no heater atm.

Why did you crush it? Wasn't it worth something for parts?

Come out if you can. The temps might be in the 40s or in the 60s. Hopefully it's in the 60s. Driving in 40s with no heat is still cold even with the sun shining.

I ended up parting it, and then scrapping it and making a little over 600. No many people want sohc/auto saturn parts.

Scrap has been high on top of the mountain here for a while. It was 14.30 a hundred when I took the saturn. Plus the head, intake manifold, block, pistons, and crash bars are aluminum.

You'd have to be more specific, I've owned and sold probably 10 dsms in the past 5 years.

I sold/traded 4 last year before I deployed alone. Red 1g AWD, White 1g FWD Auto, black/silver 1g AWD, and a black 1g N/T 4g63. They were all 1ga talons.

I usually don't keep them long because I never found one I was quite happy with. If I get another 1g its gonna have to be an auto, awd, no sunroof, no abs. I only got rid of the last AWD I had because I was tired of messing with it, and it wasn't auto.

You definitely love the DSMs, that's for sure. It's always hard to find that perfect one when having to deal with used cars.

DSMs are just so cheap these days, especially 1gs in the south.

Looking like your making progress. I still have some misc 1g parts. Hit me up if you need anything and I will bring it to you, or meet you on southside near the bridge or something.

I still have a complete set of tails, sunroof, misc interior pieces, misc engine stuff, various pigtails and connectors, a set of white face gauges, though I am not sure where the white faced hvac trim is. Lots of other stuff I will let go for free if you need it. Also if you decided to get a set of wheels I might take the swirlies off your hands.

I've got 2 apillar gauge holders if you need of those as well, would like to hangon to at least one incase I get another 1g.
