Huge Classic Car dealership in Arab, AL

Went to Arab this morning to run a 5K. My dad, who lives in Arab, took me to a car dealership right on 231 in Arab, Austin Hinds Motors. A Chevy fan would think he'd died and gone to heaven: Inside his showroom was approximately 40 collectible Chevys! Included were a '64 409hp 409 Impala, a slightly restomodded '57 Fuelie Chevy Convertible, a 1969 Z-28, 2 '69 SS396 Chevelles, 5-6 '66-67 Chevelles, 4 other 67-69 Camaros including 2 convertibles, numerous '55-57 Chevys including a Nomad, a 1961 "bubbletop" Belair, and a couple of Fords - a '64 Galaxie and a '55 TBird. Plus there are about 10 other less desirable collector cars sitting outside. Apparently Mr. Hinds used to run a junkyard in Arab and had been buying up these cars over the years - I guess they'll be his retirement now.

Probably not - it was one of those places with no prices listed - you have to ask...

I believe they're all for sale. There was an article in the Arab paper a while back about him opening up. He's been bringing the cars in a few at a time.

The Dean's junkyard that I know is in Lacey's Spring, across the road (kind of) from the Wavaho station.

Not meaning to interrupt but while looking through the posts I saw this about Austin Hinds Motors. I happened upon the place myself about a month ago.

Yes, some really nice cars in there. And regarding the prices, they all actually have the prices marked on the windshields. They are in Dealer Code, for example, a '55 Chevy Coupe would be priced like "194990055", meaning the '55 was priced at $49,900. Next time you go by, check it out.

I must confess, I found the entire inventory to be extremely over-priced. I suppose if a person comes along and buys one no questions asked, they'll sell at that price, but more than likely, they are negotiable.

Very interesting on the pricing. Simple, but effective.

Sounds like how Woody Anderson prices their used cars, take off the first and last two numbers and you hae the price of the car. Or at least that's how it was when I worked there.

You'll notice on their website that they are too unnerved to even list a suggested sale price on their vehicles. That action alone is enough to not bother to do business with them!!

I don't know about that. Pictures only do a car a certain type of justice. And as anybody that has seen a car on ebay and in real life knows, the camera cannot show everything.

I've always made it a point to physically inspect a car that I've found on-line. That's the only way to really was it is worth.

I agree, about not buying a vehicle sight unseen. I would never do so, but there are those that take the chance.

My point was that even on eBay, you have an idea of the price range for a particluar vehicle whereas at the place in Arab, you are blind to even a suggested asking price. Not everyone can just drive on over to look through their vehicles.

But that is just my opinion, others have different. And bottom line, at least there is a local dealer that has an inventory should one desire to look.
